Blogger offers two publishing options for your blog: hosting on Blogspot (example.blogspot.com) and hosting on your own custom domain (www.example.com – Notice the “WWW” here !).
The problem with this is if you have a domain: “www.example.com” and if you try to link only “exmple.com” with “example.blogspot.com” (Without the WWW) you will get an error saying ” Blogs may not be hosted at naked domains”. The work around is simple. You will be forced to link: “WWW.example.com” with “example.blogspot.com”. Whenever a visitor will try visiting “http://example.com” (Without the WWW again !) , s/he will land on either the domain hoster’s default promo page or get an error ! The visitor will never be able to see your site !
The solution to this problem is rather easy ! When entering the domain under the “Advanced Settings”, put a “blank space” between the http:// and domain (before the domain) and then click on save.
After doing this, log-in to your DNS registerer’s account and go to your DNS Management Panel. Don’t close the Blogger Dashboard yet !
Step 1: After opening DNS Management Panel, in the “A” section add the following four separate A-records:
Step 3: Add this additional CNAME Record:
Now return to the blogger Settings Dashboard and wait there for 1 Hour ! After 1 Hour try again saving the Advanced Settings.
If you still get an error, click on the “you can verify your ownership of this domain with a TXT record through the Google webmaster tools here” and follow the Webmaster Tool’s text verification method. Only after you verify your ownership over your custom domain, the blogspot domain will start redirecting your visitors to your custom domain.
Step 4. Check the Blogger’s “example.com” to “www.example.com” redirect check box under Advanced Settings.
Step 5. After you finish everything, you will need to check if everything is fine and working correctly.
To do so go to this site : http://www.internetofficer.com/seo-tool/redirect-check/ and enter your blogspot url (example.blogspot.com) in the “Which Redirection Box” and hit submit.
If you see “301 moved Parmanently” in “Response” then, blogspot to custom domain redirection is working fine.
Now again enter the custom domain – example.com (without WWW) at the same place and hit submit. If you again see the same output (Type of redirect: 301 Moved Permanently), then you have successfully linked your blogspot.com blog to your custom domain.
